Rivers

Spawning

Rivers have received a major upgrade in terms on what aquatic mobs spawn inside them. The way these new mobs spawn is by randomly replacing a specific vanilla mob that naturally spawn. For the case of rivers, the salmon is the mob that has a chance to be replaced by the new Blue Depths mobs. On top of that, some salmon will instead be replaced by a mob within a certain pool instead of the mob being directly chosen instead. Below shows a table of the chance of a salmon being replaced by a Blue Depths mob:

Spawn Chance (Salmon)

Blue Depths Mob Spawn Chance (Replacement Chance) Group Size
Common Passive Fish (Pool) 20% Varies
Catfish 15% 1
Predator (Pool) 8% Varies
Electric Eel 5% 1
Archerfish 4.1% 1
Sturgeon 4% 1
Common Fish (Pool)

Below shows which creatures are within the Common Fish Pool, and their chance of being selected to spawn if the pool has been selected.

Blue Depths Mob Spawn Chance Group Size
Bluegill 50% 1
Largemouth Bass 50% 1
Predator (Pool)

Below shows which creatures are within the Predator Pool, and their chance of being selected to spawn if the pool has been selected.

Blue Depths Mob Spawn Chance Group Size
Bull Shark 30% 1
Crocodile 70% 1

Ecosystem Details

Rivers have received a huge upgrade with Blue Depths installed. What used to only contain 2 aquatic mobs now has a total of 10 new and unique aquatic mobs.

Ambient Mobs

The new ambient mobs that add more diversity to rivers are the Catfish, Bluegill, and Largemouth Bass. These mobs add more atmosphere to rivers, and are relatively common as well. This way, rivers aren't majorly populated by salmon and the occasional squid.

Utility Mobs

Rivers also contain the epicly rare Sturgeon. They not only serve as a new weird looking mob for players to discover, but they can drop Sturgeon Scute, which can be processed to make the Armorbite that can give players resistance for 3 minutes. These scute can only be processed by using the Deep Blue Grill.

Rivers also contain Electric Eels. These creatures can drop Electric Eel (Item) which can be used to craft the Electrode which can power redstone if an electric eel is within a 5 block radius of the electrode.

Predatory/Hostile Mobs

Rivers have also become significantly more dangerous with the addition of the Archerfish and the Bull Shark. Although the archerfish cannot kill the player in most cases (unless the player is on extremely low health) and does not actively hunt down the player, it can do knockback with it's spit attack.

Rivers can also spawn the Bull Shark. Although they are smaller and deal less damage than the Great White Shark, they are much more likely to attack the player unprovoked, and can be easily angered if the player sticks too close to them for too long.

The most dangerous predator is the Crocodile. Unlike most other mobs, the crocodile will always target the player (unless they were hatched by an egg) without needing to be provoked. They have the potential to lunge at players and deal tremendous damage. If you defeat one, you can use it's item drops to craft Crocodile Armor or even raise a crocodile of your own.
